Planning & Engagement
Planning for the Campus Center arose from Stanford’s Long-Range Vision and reflects a subsequent, rigorous community engagement process that revealed a preference for a vibrant campus center. After officially kicking off with a robust community engagement process and envisioning phase in 2019, the project was paused by the pandemic, and programming and design efforts resumed in 2023. To help turn this vision into reality, Stanford enlisted outside experts with ongoing opportunities for the university community to weigh in with their reactions and ideas. The project team, guided by a committee of student, faculty, and staff representatives, engaged with the campus community, using pulse surveys and periodic open house sessions with campus planners and architects. Pilot programs and focus groups have been providing crucial feedback about what will serve the community well.

Community input has been crucial to the planning process, shaping everything from the initial idea to concepts for structures and best uses for the spaces. The project advisory committee included student, faculty, and staff representatives. Open houses with site planners and architects in White Memorial Plaza and Stanford Redwood City provided community members a window into and voice in the process. Online tools offered other opportunities to review plans, ask questions, and make suggestions.
